WASTE

The company uses tinplate cans as primary packaging, a highly recyclable material and avoids the use of plastics or polylaminate materials, which are not biodegradable and have harmful impacts on the environment. Regarding the by-product of the production of tomato preserves, seeds and skins are not treated as waste but as a secondary raw material used for animal feed. Operators with the appropriate authorizations therefore take the waste production from our sites to use it for animal feed.

We have a corporate sustainability improvement plan, both in terms of respect for the environment and ethics, in fact the company is SA 8000 certified and has passed a SEDEX-SMET 2 pillar audit. Furthermore, on the 2023 - 2025 agenda there are the following objectives, in part already achieved, and other course of achievement.

PRODUCTION CYCLE

The production plant is equipped with an X-Ray optical sorter, which facilitates the subsequent manual sorting operation performed by the operators. This operation is carried out by moving the tomato on special conveyor belts, which are set at a moderate speed to facilitate the selection by workers. In addition, in order to further guarantee the well-being of the workers assigned to the selection operation, they are positioned along the conveyors in a homogeneous way (about 8 per conveyor), this allows a work load reduction for each of them. We aim to promote and maintain the highest degree of physical, psychological, and social well-being of workers at every stage of the production.
