Olive oil has been in the news a lot lately and sometimes for the wrong reasons. Unfortunately, the media doesn’t always get it exactly right and that is especially true when it comes to Extra Virgin Olive Oil. The charges that a high percentage of Extra Virgin Olive Oil has been adulterated (blended with lower cost and inferior quality oils such as nut, seed, soy or canola oil) is grossly overstated! Although, we would be the first to agree that any instance of adulteration is one too many. 

So, please be assured that Cento Extra Virgin Olive Oil and all of our olive oils in our family of brands have always and will always continue to exemplify the highest industry quality control standards.

Prior to bottling any of our brands of Extra Virgin Olive Oil, Cento's Quality Assurance mandates an independent third party certification from a European Union sanctioned testing laboratory. These lab tests certify that our Extra Virgin Olive Oil (EVOO) is just that, 100% EVOO, and in strict compliance with all International Olive Council (IOC) standards for Extra Virgin including sensory analysis and an array of chemical tests. Once the oil is in compliance with Cento’s quality standards, only then is it released to the Cento Quality Control where, based on the flavor and performance, it is permitted to be packed under our family of brands. It should be noted that the IOC sets the benchmark for global olive oil standards. The members of the IOC represent 97% of global olive oil production and 96% of world olive oil exports.

Cento also is a member of the North American Olive Oil Association (NAOOA) and participates in its olive oil monitoring program. The NAOOA has been testing olive oils "off-the-shelf" from the U.S. and Canadian markets for more than twenty-five years to verify compliance with IOC standards. The key words above “off-the-shelf” are a critical quality control component because sample collection is randomly collected at the store shelf level. Rest assured Cento Extra Virgin Olive Oil and all of our family olive oils comply with USDA standards and FDA guidelines.

Cento rigorously tests the quality of all its oils.  Our production plant in Italy is ISO certified (International Organization for Standardization) and upholds all international good manufacturing practices.
